Welcome to One Car Garage, in which I choose a manufacturer or class of vehicle, and you decide choose single vehicle (no matter how old, no matter how exclusive) to live with for the rest of your life. This is your only vehicle, and all expenses are paid for, including price of entry, insurance, gas, etc.
Maybe it’s just the kind of week I’m having, or maybe I’m just a lazy person. Just like !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! though, I’m feeling a bit lazy. I’m not gonna let it affect OCG, though! Today, we’ll be tackling the perplexing, yet incredibly awesome Swedes known as Saab.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
For me, it’s going to have to be the Turbo X in wagon (SportCombi) form. It’s an AWD (XWD) wagon with with a turbocharged V6 under the hood. That mill is good for a claimed 276 HP, and a particularly impressive 300 lb-ft of torque. Now, being as I’m not particularly Saab savvy, I’m sure you guys will be able to inform me of some other fantastic models as well. What’ll it be?

The ridiculously rare last-gen 9-5 Sportcombi for me!!

My previous answer stands. My personal 900 SPG. It's all I ever need and, with all expenses paid, it runs like a top again.

99 Turbo for me! Those wheels, Turbo badging, and front grill are so classy. Plus its pretty quick.

92H camper. These are the only two ever made.

Oooh, that's one I didn't know about. Though according to Wikipedia, if you want it with the 300 hp V6, you've got to have it with an auto. :(

I second this.

This is my Saab. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
My Saab is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.
My Saab, without me, is useless. Without my Saab, I am useless. I must throttle my Saab true. I must gun straighter than my enemy who is trying to outrun me. I must outrun him before he outruns me. I will...
My Saab and I know that what counts in this race is not the HP we got, the noise of our burst, nor the smoke we make. We know that it is the wins that count. We will win...
My Saab is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its gaspedal and its brakes. I will keep my Saab clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will...
Before God, I swear this creed. My Saab and I are the defenders of my Honour. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life.
So be it, until victory is mine and there is no result, but victory!Yeah.. no not really.. but If I had to choose a Saab it had to be the Turbo X... So yeah..

Saab 900 Turbo 16v. Newer cars might be more practical, but this is how a Saab should be to me.

I would have to go with the 9-3 Viggen. Torque steer, boost from 2k on up, and dat roofline.

I'm with you on this one.

9-2x Because I like the looks of a Saab, with the performance of a Subie.

No one picked the Viggen yet? Mine.

Saab Aero concept.

I've driven the exact car depicted here... it was one of the GM Heritage Collection cars. Drove it on the Turbo-X press day they held back in the spring of '08 just outside Boston. Nothing quite like the sound and feel of a boosted Saab B-series engine, though I much prefer the more modern 900 Turbo from experience.

Having owned a classic 900, a new generation 900, a 9000 Aero, and a 9-3 Viggen, I can honestly say I'd never look at another Saab again, if it meant I could have the PheoniX.

These cars were Saab's peak. They got progressively worse since then. (I've driven every model since the 99)

This would be my second choice
They can be had for ~5 grand
The wife would kill me

Disappointing no one said it yet.9000 AERO! Fast, fwd which is decent for winter, most comfortable seats ever! And extremely affordable.

2008 Saab 9-X Biohybrid

One of the final-generation Saab 9-5s for me.

I'll go with my 9000 CSE, for stealth credentials. ;)
A bit of a remap and you're past the Aero on power. I wouldn't mind some better suspension bits, though. *wobble wobble*
I love this damn car, I take it everywhere and sleep in the back. We've been to Slovenia, Croatia, Italy, France, Spain (just shy of the border), Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Germany, Austria... This year I took it to the 'ring and it was a blast.
Mine's allegedly at 240hp now, but seeing some build threads, the 2.3T can be upped to 400+ without opening it or spending lots of moolah.

That car is beautiful. I have that picture of your 9000 on the ring saved in my phone. I thought it was an aero at the time even! I remember reading your post about that.

Aw, I'm flattered :) The first pic is somewhere on the Autobahn, though. Another thing I forgot to mention - I'd never be able to afford the Aero, as the insurance quotes here are based on power output and they rise exponentially. Mine's registered as a bog standard 2.3 low pressure turbo. Saves me a bunch of money and it ain't illegal. At least around here, anyway.
Funny bit: My homologation papers claim the car to be a 1st gen 9-3, when imported from Italy, years back. What the heck was going on in the minds of the techs there I'll never know.
How bad is your insurance, mate?

Cool. Pretty smart. I'm in CT,USA. It's my Dads car, I'm not old enough to drive. I found it on saabnet.com, 88,000 miles, 2 little tiny rust spots, so I sent the link to my Dad!
He ended up buying it. I knew it was low mileage and underpriced. $4,700 usd I think.
I was so excited, I sent the link to my Dad in all caps! He wrote back and said "chill" and he wrote to him.

Ha, awesome father you have there. I hope my kid (if I have one) will have a story like that one day. :D

The best Subaru Saab ever made.

Sorry, just saw this comment. Yup. I love "my" aero. My Dad buys a car, keeps it for about 6 months and sells, meaning bye bye to the aero soon. I knew it was coming though so I was prepared, But in a way it's like selling your first car, you just don't want the day to come. The way he looks at it is "Gotta sell this one so I can get something else cool". Whatever, it's been a fun car.
